Education Department Threatens to Cut Federal Funding for Maine Schools

The Education Department [announced Friday](https://www.ed.gov/about/news/press-release/us-department-of-education-announces-consequences-maines-title-ix-noncompliance) that it would cut off all federal funding to K-12 schools in Maine unless the state complied with the president's executive order banning transgender athletes from girls' sports teams. The agency also said it had asked the Department of Justice to begin an enforcement action.
