Lowering the Cost of Living by Promoting the Freedom to Fix

The order directs federal agencies to expand the “freedom to fix” by clarifying what actions individuals and repair shops may take to perform or obtain emissions-related repairs consistent with the Clean Air Act and to provide guidance on acceptable aftermarket parts and certification processes. The Environmental Protection Agency is instructed to issue guidance and to encourage, review, and where appropriate provide assurances for third-party testing and certification programs for aftermarket emissions parts, while protecting intellectual property and confidential business information.
