National Purple Heart Day, 2026

August 7, 2026, is proclaimed National Purple Heart Day to honor service members wounded or killed in combat and recognize their families’ sacrifices. The proclamation calls on Americans to honor Purple Heart recipients and their service, while citing Department of Veterans Affairs efforts including new health clinics, reducing its processing backlog by more than 74 percent, addressing veteran homelessness, and ending Social Security taxes for senior veterans.
